UNCHARTED Power is proving that decentralised and smart energy infrastructure means gains in sustainability, reliability and cost-efficiency. Uncharted began by developing play products that transform kinetic energy into stored electricity for lighting and other needs. It has put the toys to one side to focus on bigger challenges. The Uncharted Power system converts shared infrastructure into sources of renewable energy and data, such as a paver solution that harnesses the kinetic energy of traffic. A pilot programme is under way, and with a full roll-out due by 2021. Over the next five years, it will begin scaling domestically and internationally. For advancing an internet for decentralised energy, the BV judging panel presents Uncharted Power with the 2020 award for Most Innovative Smart City Solutions (Global).
