GE, known for jet engine production, locomotives, and gas turbines, is set to become a digital leader, with plans to become a top 10 software developer by 2020.
Over the past few years the company has been going through an intense restructuring in favour of the digital industry; its massive financial services business, appliance division, and the NBC Universal operations have all been sold off.
The firm has sold off $100 billion worth of its business and reinvested it in hundreds of new hires in software development and a new corporate headquarters in Boston – strategically beside MIT and Harvard.
