MERCADO Libre entered the e-commerce scene in 1999 and has grown through acquisitions and organic growth to serve 18 countries across Latin America. The group capitalises on rising smartphone penetration to continuously develop e-commerce and fintech business lines. Mercado Libre ran a campaign celebrating the first Christmas without travel bans since 2019. The campaign promoted reunions between families separated during the Covid-19 pandemic and used a rented airplane displaying the Mercado Libre logo to reconnect loved ones. The BV jury presents Mercado Libre with the 2021 Best Social Impact eCommerce Platform (Americas) award.
